Three days ago I commented on Reverend Al Sharpton’s top-notch advice to the Biden campaign, noting that the Rev’s come-out-swinging attitude is what’s been needed to toughen the campaign’s rhetoric. Then, last Thursday, George Stephanopoulos stepped up to deliver similar advice while speaking with David Axelrod on his podcast, The Axe Files. [Emphasis added]
Stephanopoulos: I think it’s important to provide the context. I mean, we’ve never, not once before in American history, have we had a president indicted or impeached for trying to overturn an election. Not once. Not once have we had a president who refuses to accept the results of the next election. That’s before we get to all of the other legal issues, all the other civil suits, everything else. Just focus on that right there.
Axelrod: Right.
Stephanopoulos: And I think what our job is to not lose sight of that because the peaceful transfer of power is fundamental.
Axelrod: Fundamental, yes, but so too is covering a major party candidate who could be the next president.
Stephanopoulos: And I just think that what we have to make sure is that we don’t equate trying to overturn an election with tax policy. You can’t pretend they exist on the same level. You have to cover it all. I agree with all that. But within especially within, when you have limited time, I think you have to make sure you’re putting things in context and emphasizing the priority of the various issues.
Excellent advice that hopefully is adopted by the centrist media, most of which view this election as a “critical” election, but, still, as just another election, a horse race for a political office. Yes, they do credit Trump as a major disruptor, nonetheless, too few focus on just how dangerous he is. For example, few do more than mention, if at all, the Heritage Foundation’s “blueprint” for Trump’s second term, a veritable grab bag of authoritarian policies that make fascism appear tame. Their 900+ page Project 2025: Mandate for Leadership: The Conservative Promise is not “conservative,” it’s radical; it’s not a “promise,” it’s a threat. And it’s aurhored by a regiment of Trumpists, many from his first term; they mean business.
So, with time passing at a swift pace, the Biden campaign ought to become more specific about the dire possibilities of a second Trump term. Spreading the word about Project 25 is central to that effort.
Yes. We must disseminate actual information as Trump’s disinformation, lies and threats are disseminated, and trumpet the radical frightening threat posed to us who just want a reasonable government.
excellent!
